about us
Legends. Stories, scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the many exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants - byproducts - of a forgotten past.

Join the ranks of Remnant’s prestigious Academies as you fight to protect the Four Kingdoms from the clutches of the evil Creatures of Grimm. Alternatively, you may work towards bringing the world to its knees by fighting against the last sparks of humanity. Red Like Roses is based on the hit web-series RWBY by Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth Productions.

AURA & SEMBLANCE.

Sevastus's aura is onyx black in color. It has a feeling of incoherence, as if it were constantly dissipating in smokey wisps and could very possibly disperse altogether. Nonetheless, Sevastus's aura is such that one feels an extra presence in its vicinity, as if Sevastus is never truly alone. The effect of this varies from beholder to beholder, with the most self-confident feeling next to nothing from the extra presence, while those with deep insecurities feel as if they are constantly being scrutinized by some imperceivable being.

Sevastus’s semblance involves the creation of a certain type of replica constructs. The constructs appear as shadowy clones of Sevastus, with their edges slightly emanating wispy black smoke. The clones can be cast towards a location away from Sevastus, set to converge on a target, or left standing in Sevastus’s current position. Though able to move independently according to a preset pattern of attack, the shadow clone constructs most often mimic Sevastus’s actions, including running and jumping, matching his movements as if the constructs were Sevastus himself. The constructs can even create disconnected extensions of themselves to mimic Sevastus throwing an object. This allows for Sevastus to distract and confuse opponents. Additionally, Sevastus can switch locations with a shadow clone construct near-instantaneously, appearing as a dark, wispy blur as he does so. The constructs cannot hurt people, their bodies phasing harmlessly right through once they come into contact with others. The constructs linger after creation for a short period of time. With significant aura expenditure, Sevastus can grant a clone corporeality so that it gains the ability to physically damage targets.

By interacting with his shadow clones, Sevastus can expend a significant amount of aura to leave shadowy marks on targets that he himself physically attacks. The marks degrade over a period of several seconds. The marks by themselves are harmless. However, the true danger posed by them comes when Sevastus’s shadow clone constructs also leave shadowy marks on the same target through an aura-consuming physical attack. The original mark reacts with the shadow clone’s mark and compounds with any subsequent marks to resonate and deal additional damage over the duration of the original mark left by Sevastus. The resonating effect leaves no physical evidence of damage, though it still drains aura like a normal attack and inflicts crippling pain described as feeling as if the body parts were to rupture or burst outward, a sensation matched by its equally visceral representation if it were to be viewed with some sort of aura-sight. Against an enemy unprotected by aura, devastating internal bleeding and hemorrhaging may ensue.

Through the use of dust, Sevastus can give his shadow constructs various secondary effects. Most notably, Sevastus uses lightning dust. Lightning dust surrounds his clone constructs in an aura of lightning that discharges and lashes out at nearby combatants. Additionally, when Sevastus switches places with one of his shadow constructs, lightning dust cause a swift, bright, and loud electric discharge reminiscent of a lightning strike to herald his arrival at the place he swapped to, causing combatants in the nearby vicinity to sustain electric shock. Sevastus's semblance can likely interact with other types of dust but he has almost exclusively used lightning dust in conjunction with his semblance.

While simple mimicry and distraction through the shadow clones requires little energy, given their totally incorporeal nature, the semblance is greatly taxing if used to inflict physical damage. Turning the shadow clones corporeal enough for physical contact drains a significant amount of Sevastus's energy, so when he does decide to use such physical attacks, his execution must be utterly perfect, or else he will be forced to disengage and retreat for lack of energy.

WEAPON.

Named Spite, Sevastus's weapons are complete set of a vambrace-mounted and greaves-mounted blades. Each vambrace sports a pair of hardened blades that both have an elongated triangular cross section, providing a cutting edge both ventrally and laterally to Sevastus’s forearm. Each knee/shin blade, on the other hand is a single standard-shaped blade that rises out of its mounting unit, primarily following the movement of the lower leg to derive its cutting power. All of the blades can be retracted into their armor mountings that while unable to completely sheathe the blades, nonetheless help in removing them from where they would prevent the blades from getting in the way outside of combat. The vambraces and greaves can be loaded with kinetic dust, which upon triggering, would send reverberating shockwaves down the blade. In response, the blades resonate and vibrate in an ultra-high frequency. With precise timing, the reverberation can augment the damage of a blow from the blade, increasing its striking and its armor penetration ability.

In addition to Spite, mounted underneath each of Sevastus’s forearms is a small cable-rope dart launcher that are powered by kinetic dust. With a range of approximately 30 ft. the rope darts offer away for Sevastus to extend his reach to further enemies. If the rope darts are able to embed themselves in a target, Sevastus can pull the target towards him to close the gap. The rope darts are detachable, but once detached, Sevastus cannot reuse them without reattaching the cable to the launcher mechanism.

Sevastus also carries several combat knives that can also be used as throwing knives. The knives each contain a small explosive dust charge and is created in a way to focus the explosive energy downward through the blade of the knife, turning it into something like a shaped charge that can shear through most materials with a spike of superheated metal.

Generally on missions in which he expects action, Sevastus will wear multi-spectrum goggles that have viewing features for ambient light, infrared, and aura emissions.

With such weapons, Sevastus is very much an assassination-based close quarters combatant. As a matter of personal preference and technique, he has a supremely vicious and predatory fighting style and targets weak points, such as joints, gaps in armor (or bone plating, in the case of Grimm), nerve-dense areas, and sensory organs. Because Spite is not a very suitable blocking weapon, on account of the somewhat narrow blades, Sevastus's fighting style calls for using his agility, footwork, and semblance to dodge incoming attacks and use them to weave around opponents to find exposed vulnerabilities. When using his semblance, Sevastus focuses on confusing and disorienting his enemies with false clones of himself, using relentless, but ultimately incorporeal attacks from the shadow clones to desensitize enemies and break up organized defenses before seizing upon the most vulnerable target.

PERSONAL PROFILE

APPEARANCE.

Sevastus is six feet, two inches and weighs approximately 200 lbs. Toned and muscular on a medium-sized frame; he has short, black hair in a crew cut hairstyle. On his face is a straight nose accompanied by prominent cheekbones, and a strong jawline. His dark brown, almost black, eyes are weathered-looking as if tired from years of life experience far in excess of his biological age, but a glint of intensity can still be found in them. Scars run from Sevastus's left temple to below his left cheek and down the left side of the lip. He would be quite handsome, in a roguish way, were it not for the look of abject contempt sometimes on his face.

Given Sevastus's proclivity for indiscreetness, he most commonly wears attire more suited for blending in with ordinary people, often times opting not to take Spite so as to complete the look. Such attire usually consists of a black double-breasted peacoat, a long-sleeved off-white henley shirt, a brown leather belt, and dark indigo slim-cut jeans. With this, Sevastus wears brown leather desert boots and aviator sunglasses, sometimes accompanied by a sand-colored and faded black afghan scarf.

When Sevastus is expecting sustained combat on a mission, he prefers to equip himself with more combat-oriented equipment. In such situations, he wears a grey long-sleeved, turtleneck muscle shirt over which is a form-fitting charcoal/gunmetal gray plate cuirass and padded spaulders. On the lower part of his body, he wears similarly grey trousers and black combat boots. With this, Sevastus uses several utility rigs and harnesses for storage and often wears the same afghan scarf from his civilian attire.

PERSONALITY.

Sevastus's character is, at a glance, very rough around the edges. Having grown up an orphan being bounced between orphanages and foster parents, he is relatively taciturn, preferring to observe and listen first in almost all things. Furthermore, the kinlessness of being an orphan have let him with a stinging and sarcastic cynicism that is off-putting to say the least. That is not to say he is unfriendly or naturally disposed to hostility. Despite preferring to keep to himself, Sevastus recognizes and values relationships built on the camaraderie of fighting and struggling together. If people can get past his cynicism, they will find he is someone that, at least as of yet, can be firmly relied upon.

Also as a result of his upbringing, Sevastus is independent in the extreme.
His primary concern is and almost always will be himself, as the bitter sting of poverty and kinlessness have caused him to develop a fierce survivalism and drive to succeed. Indeed, there is little that he will not do to obtain something that he has set his sight on. This has left him with a streak of a social darwinist mentality, as he sees those who would bow their heads to external authority as equally contempt-worthy and pitiful as those who would roll over and await death without struggle. In this way, while Sevastus very rarely goes out of his way to be cruel, there is a certain callousness in his actions, especially towards those he considers too weak-willed to help themselves, that may unsettle others.

Though he seems to let few things get to him and strike a chord personally, Sevastus is quite hostile to ideologies, in all their forms. Utterly disdainful of the notions of good and evil, progress and regress, political correctness, morality, he sees such things as both the tools with which those in power maintain the status quo and oppress those below them as well as the refuge of the those too cowardly to bare their own world views to the rest of the world for scrutiny. It is not that Sevastus is immoral, but instead, he amoral as the labels others place on thoughts and actions are beyond his concern. Rather, his main goal is to preserve the uniqueness and individuality of his soul, for better or for worse, and his life, as he sees it, is an unending journey for him to constantly discover and rediscover what that uniqueness is.

HISTORY.

Sevastus was an orphan in the Kingdom of Atlas. Without a permanent home, he was at the absolute bottom, or at least very near the bottom, of Atlesian society. Outcast at school for his lack of family and bullied at home by the other orphans, who often tormented others only to hide their own anguish, one of two things he had to hold on to, in his state of kinlessness, was his sense of self and personal identity. Without parents or close support to help him discover it, Sevastus could only rely on himself to get through each day, each week, each year. Besides that, the only other thing he could rely on was his drive to escape the orphanages and foster homes and everything associated with them. Every year, he would watch the very few best and brightest of the older orphans get accepted into combat school and then presumably, into Titan Academy. When those older orphans would occasionally come back to visit the orphanages or foster homes they were raised in, Sevastus, young and impressionable, could only see how great it must have been to have been a hunter, with their pristine, bright white uniforms, the pride and dignity with which they carried themselves, and they way others honored and acclaimed them almost everywhere they went. It was from these moments that Sevastus resolved that in order to be free from the wretched orphanages and foster homes that he was constantly being bounced between, he would fight to gain acceptance, first in a combat school and then Titan Academy in order to join the ranks of Atlas's hunters.

With his mind set on the goal of becoming an Atlesian hunter, Sevastus strove to pass muster for Atlas's combat school, which due to his efforts, he was able to attend. Not one to rest, Sevastus kept his mind focused on entering, and eventually graduating from Titan Academy. To this end, he constantly worked, relentlessly beating himself up to train better, fight better, and ultimately be better.

In combat school, Sevastus's harshness on himself worked well, and he was able to rise above his peers and gain admission into Titan Academy. However, his time at Titan was noticeably different from his time in combat school. Though Sevastus's impossible standards for himself allowed to perform well in duels and individual examinations, the team-based aspects of Titan's curriculum were much more problematic. It was not that the team-based assignments were too difficult, but rather, Sevastus's untamable individualism as well as several other strong personalities on the team made teamwork quite difficult, to say the least. While he and the rest of his teammates were more than able to accomplish the tasks on their own, it seemed as Sevastus had absolutely zero interest in involving his teammates in his own plans. As a result, Sevastus's team, which had more or less been considered an all-star team in its class based on the combat school records and performances of its members, fell far below expectation. It was at this point that Titan's staff impressed upon Sevastus that despite his outstanding dueling and individual examination scores, he would not be eligible for recruitment into Atlas's Specialist Corps if his team's performance continued to suffer so detrimentally.

Unwilling to see his dream denied him, Sevastus eventually modified his behavior, as far as team assignments were concerned. Though still as individualistic and independent as always, Sevastus and his teammates developed a way for them to be on notice of and accommodate for Sevastus's tendencies. From time to time, Sevastus would even follow the plans of others, though any misgivings he had regarding the plans were still grounds for him to ignore them. With even these small changes, his team was able to significantly improve their performance and standings such that the individual skill of each member was able to make up for any persistent deficiencies in their "teamwork."

Though Sevastus's team was unable to take the top rank in their class, they nonetheless were a very formidable group of competitors, and as such, when Sevastus graduated from Titan Academy, he was eligible to join Atlas's Specialists. After a rough start during which he adjusted to a structured and ordered life in Atlas's military, Sevastus initially found being a Specialist to be everything he had dreamed it would be. At the top of Atlas's skilled agents, he and other Specialists commanded respect and honor. Playing to his strengths and proclivities, Sevastus was often given deep cover assignments and sent abroad in order to indiscreetly further Atlas's agenda from beyond its borders. Despite the fact that few outside of the Specialist corps would recognize his contributions to the security and interests of Atlas, he was nonetheless part of an elite group, and to the orphan that watched with envious awe at the older kids returning to the orphanage as hunters, that was just fine.

Eventually, after years of deep cover assignments, Sevastus's separation from the strict hierarchy of Atlas's military allowed to take a step back and see things in a different light. He realized that throughout the years of espionage, assassination, and formenting civil unrest, he had always acted under the orders of his superiors. Always ready to complete his missions without question, he had lost the independence and uniqueness of character the he for so long had cling to and instead traded it willingly for a yoke under someone else's rein. Indeed, he was not even sure precisely whose agenda he served, as his only connection to the hierarchy he never questioned was through his handlers. Was he even still serving Atlas? It was at this point that Sevastus decided to escape and abandon the Specialist corps that he had devoted nearly his entire life to becoming a part of.

Gradually contacting his handlers less and less, Sevastus, abroad and away from Atlas, disappeared into the local population of Vacuo, the site of his last assignment. Atlas, seeking to bring him back into the fold, or in the alternative, unwilling to allow the security threat posed by a supremely lethal Specialist and the secret intelligence he was privy to to go unchecked, has sent handlers and other operatives after Sevastus, only for them to be dispatched by him. Sevastus has since traveled across Remnant, searching for himself as the orphan had to do so many years ago.

Sevastus, despite his current nomadic and free-wandering lifestyle, is currently located in Vale. Rumor has it that he is looking to gather other likeminded former agents who have since renounced their ties to their kingdoms.
