about us
Legends. Stories, scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the many exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants - byproducts - of a forgotten past.

Join the ranks of Remnant’s prestigious Academies as you fight to protect the Four Kingdoms from the clutches of the evil Creatures of Grimm. Alternatively, you may work towards bringing the world to its knees by fighting against the last sparks of humanity. Red Like Roses is based on the hit web-series RWBY by Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth Productions.

What will happen this year?

Everything was dark. Well, everything was darker. Darker than it was a few seconds ago anyway. Not so dark that he couldn't see, but definitely enough for one to notice. He didn't find this new tint of darkness visually impairing or discomforting at all, he just found it strange. A poor adjective for sure, but it was the only word he could find to describe this new experience. It was his first time trying on a pair of shades after all. <br>
"So, how does it look? Does it look good?" There was a tinge of excitement in his voice as he looked at the person beside him, cheerfully smiling as he'd remove the shield/hat from his head which was obscuring his face up until this point. In his three years of travelling with her it was the first time she had given him a gift. This fact made the question kind of rhetoric. Regardless of how it looked, he was simply happy to receive anything from her. He hadn't felt hated by her at all, far from it in fact, he just felt there was some distance between them. Upon putting on those shades, he felt that distance had closed some.<p>
He'd probably be wearing it for a long time, so he wanted to get used to as soon as possible. He began to survey the area around him. There were buildings and stands all around and people filling up the streets. It probably wasn't very many people around but for someone like him, a tribesman who for most of his life had never ventured into the city, it felt like enough to make up four or 5 times that of his tribe. He himself was standing in front of the aforementioned stands; a store selling a variety of accessories, a merchant happily smiling as Robin tried out his new shades, clearly seeing that his customer's satisfaction would lead to a sale and thus the acquisition of money. <p>
What surprised Robin the most however was when he looked to the sky. "Woah..." It was a clear day so the clouds were white and few while the sun shone in bright isolation. Unlike usual however he didn't reflexively squint upon viewing it, it's brightness attempting to blind him, in fact he was able to stare at it directly without an sort of discomfort, he found the prospect of this so astounding that his mouth was left slightly ajar as he stared for a while in wonder. </div>

He takes a deep breath and at this time lets a few thoughts enter his mind. Light barely finds its way through the windows of the gymnasium, the sun only just beginning to replace the moon in the sky. He was surprised to find that weren't many awake at this time. Sleeping in was a trait he found common among city folk but with what he'd heard about the academy he figured their attitude might be different here. This was apparently not the case. It didn't matter much to him though. Not in this moment at least. He releases his breath along with the thoughts inside his mind and any pervasive anxieties he might have felt, pursing his lips some as a sound is emitted. <p>
The sound produced is unlike that of which that can normally be produced by a normal person but is gentle on the ears and musical in tone, eventually forming a melody to be layered by another sound, inexplicably from the same source despite the stark difference in rhythm and tone. At the same his body began to move, his arms slowly stretching towards the sky before his entire body begins to move in time to the music. His movements are quick yet graceful, every limb knowing exactly where it means go arriving at its destination with precision and ease. Even more sounds visited, as if a band had gathered inside of his air passages while he continued to dance without a care in the world. </div>

Hey all!

Just had my OC, Robin Rasol approved, so it's only right I make myself known. You can call me Xemnia. Or anything you want really, I don't mind! Aside from being a video game and anime enthusiast I'm also a musician, singing being my main forte. I plan on eventually make an original theme for Robin, watch out for that~

I don't wanna ramble on about myself too long, so if there's anything else you wanna know, feel free to ask me in the CBox or pm me. I don't bite(unless you ask)~ ^w^

<div id="criteriah">AURA.</div>
More impressive than his fighting style is his aura. At least, on the surface. While he may seem to have a large amount, the truth is that Sekhmet feeds him a constant supply. This gives him a seemingly large amount of endurance, when really it is about average. While this can make his supply seem infinite this doesn’t mean that his aura doesn’t out, only that it drains at half the normal rate and refills at double the rate, meaning it can still be depleted through overexertion, such as absorbing too many hits or overusing his semblance and using it completely would mean certain death for him. It glows a scarlet red and exude a constant feeling of anger and death. He is able to control this to some extent, simply feeling warm at most times, but begins to show either when fighting or when his mental concentration is somehow disrupted. When using Sekhmet however his aura is transformed not in color, now glowing a bright sunset yellow, but also delivering feelings of comfort, protection and inspiration. While not seen often, this is the true nature of his aura.
<p>
~✸~

<p>
Robin’s Semblance is called Ensemble. It allows him to replicate the sound of any instrument he wishes, able to create multiple at a time. While not very applicable in a combat situation, it takes little toll on his aura and he is specifically able to use it to access the untapped power of Sekhmet. Aside from switching Sekhmet’s form, He is also able to use his semblance to activate Sekhmet’s ability to absorb and amplify his aura. In its sheathed form, this creates a barrier around Sekhmet in a 2 meter radius. In its ring blade form, this instead emits healing aura in the same radius, rapidly accelerating the healing factors in anyone’s body. In its twin Khopesh form, this increases the cutting power of the blades, allowing him to deliver the power of a two handed swing in one hand. He is also able to activate this ability at a distance from his weapon.
<p>
He incorporates this semblance ability into a song he calls “Song of the Chromaggia”, whistling to activate it. This has two main drawbacks. The first is that it is reliant upon him whistling to keep it activated. If his whistling is interrupted at all, then so too is the ability. The second drawback, is that it depletes his aura at an extreme rate, able to use it for 3 minutes at most before having to stop, otherwise risking his life.
<p>
<br>
<div id="criteriah">WEAPON.</div>
His weapon is called Sekhmet. Rather than creating his weapon like many hunters/huntresses or even having it passed down like some others, Sekhmet is an ancient weapon that quite literally fell into Robin’s possession while he was dying. How old it is, he’s unsure. Where it came from - also unsure. The only thing he’s sure of is its name, Sekhmet, but how he’s so sure of that he doesn’t know. He only knows that has no doubt about this fact. He also happens to be the only one that can activate it, responding only to his aura, coupled with his semblance. It has a variety of functions that give Robin some unique abilities.
<p>
Sekhmet has no visible mechanism through which to switch its forms, but it does indeed have three, each triggered only through use of Robin's semblance:
  • Shield, this round shield is big enough to cover his entire torso, closely resembling a golden sun disc and bearing a large eye in its centre, with various symbols circling around it.
  • Ring Blade, this does not change the size or shape at all, but rather hollows it centre and reveals blades along its outer rim, save for a handle.
  • Khopesh, this causes the handle to split and travel to either end of the ring blade, the blade then splitting to form two large Khopesh blades.
<p>
When either form of Sekhmet is thrown, he is able to activate the wind and gravity dust visibly coated around the handle. Wind, in order to guide Sekhmet’s trajectory and gravity to both enable it to hover in place when required and ensure that it gravitates towards his location, or more specifically, the dust located in his bracelets. These bracelets were given to him as a gift from his mentor shortly before joining Beacon.
<p>
Aside from its three forms, Sekhmet also has two different states:
  • Mandjet, Sekhmet is normally in this state, which passively feeds Robin with a constant supply of aura, allowing for extraordinary endurance as well as prolonging his life span, the sole reason he is still alive.
  • Mesektet, this state inverts the Mandjet function, instead absorbing his aura through his semblance to amplify and apply it in various ways, depending on its current form. This transforms his aura to what it was before his near death experience. It can only maintain this state while being supplied with aura through his semblance (i.e. whistling) and requires such a great deal of aura that it can only be maintained for a few minutes at a time.
<p>
~✸~

<p>
Robin fights using an unorthodox style, incorporating the Chromaggia tribe’s traditional dance style as well as various other forms of dance into his attacks, primary examples being . This makes his attacks largely unpredictable. While incredibly flexible, using all of his limbs while moving around the opponent, he attacks using mostly kicks, only using his arms for quick grapple moves, but he also wields this martial art in tandem with Sekhmet’s ring blade form, able to attack with using any part of his body as well as use it for leverage when performing acrobatic maneuvers. He also has above-average speed and agility, being able to move constantly while attacking from many different angles and able to take on multiple enemies at once.
<p>
Being in a perpetual state of fight or flight makes him hyper aware of his surroundings. Pairing this with the eagle eyed trait of his faunus breed, he is able to keep up even with a semblance enhanced speed and making him more surefooted than than most, moving and attacking with surprising speed and accuracy. This is truly shown when using Sekhmet’s twin Khopesh form, allowing for a faster, more constant flow of attacks, as well as being able to move around the terrain more efficiently.

<p>
<br>
</div><br><br>
<div id="tab">PERSONAL PROFILE</div>
<div id="smalltext">
<br>
<div id="criteriah">APPEARANCE.</div>
Robin is relatively short for his age, standing at a height of 5'2" (160cm) with a bronze, tanned complexion and very sharp features. His spiked hair a dark auburn, his eyes a sunset orange, distinctly smaller and more circular than a human’s eyes. They sit very closely to his eyebrows which are extremely thin and angled slightly downwards. These eyes are complemented by large, blue and red eye shadow flaring upwards and converging at the ends of his eyebrows.
He also has three feathers protruding from the top of his forehead, where his hair begins, branching off in different directions.
<p>
Just below those feathers he wears a small triangle patterned bandanna, one half orange, the other blue. Covering only his chest is a small, short-sleeved choli, orange in color with golden lining, leaving revealed a slender yet finely toned midriff. His grey capri pants are fairly baggy, save for the ends which stop at his ankles wrapping tightly around his leg. On his feet are flat, lace-less slipper shoes and while a plain black, the soles are a golden yellow, the lining of which is visible even when flat on the ground.
<p>
For accessories, he wears two golden necklaces, the first and smallest of which is a simple chain while the second is slightly larger, holding a falcon shaped pendant at its end. He also has two golden bracelets on each wrist, both containing a small capsule, containing a mix of wind and gravity powdered dust. He also wears Sekhmet in its shield form on his back, large enough to cover his entire back, though most times he’ll instead opt to wear it on his head, similar to a Kasa, covering two thirds of his face, only removing it either before a fight or in scenarios he feels truly comfortable.
<p>
<br>
<div id="criteriah">PERSONALITY.</div>
He is nonchalant and playful in nature, a trait betrayed by his serious demeanor and occasionally sullen words. A heavy advocate of living one’s life to the fullest, he is always pushing people to “be their best selves”, yet is extremely direct in his speech, rarely mincing words even with delicate matters. This offset between harsh and kind words can make him either easy or difficult to talk to depending on one’s perspective. If he has any enemies however, he doesn’t perceive them as such. He appears emotionally and mentally resilient, rarely showing outward offense towards the words of others, be they general insults or insults towards his faunus heritage and never showing any signs of stress or exhaustion on the field. He does not however take kindly to being called a monster and even becomes violent when anyone speaks of sacrificing either themselves or others, always opting for alternatives, regardless of circumstances.
<p>
Having spent all of his life within his tribe before attending Beacon, he is incredibly ignorant of other cultures. He is even ignorant towards the culture of other faunus breeds. This is because his tribe spent much of their time traveling. Despite dealing with other cultures on multiple occasions, they were always brief and were mostly handled by the elder, giving him and his tribe little time to interact with them as a child. He had even less time after obtaining Sekhmet, having devoted all of his time towards studying and training. His main interest in other cultures comes from their various forms of dance, spending much of his spare time learning and practicing them. He gained this hobby from his tribe who had frequent music and dance festivals. He is able to pick up most dance styles with extreme ease, many of which he incorporates into his own unique fighting style. He also has an interest in video games, but is noted as being terrible at them, preferring to watch others play and shout suggestions over their shoulders, often to the player’s chagrin. He is otherwise found reading History books or books about other cultures.
<p>
He excels in his History class, achieving consistently top marks during tests. He takes his studies in this subject more seriously than most, determined to discover any clues towards the origin of Sekhmet and possibly free him from his affliction. He has a distinct lack of attention towards almost every other subject however. He finds Geography easy having seen and traveled to many of the places referenced in class, but often butts heads with the teacher regarding the details of certain locations resulting in his grades being only slightly above average. While the war between humans and faunus is an important part of history, he and his tribe were almost completely removed from the events aside from supplying the faunus with dust and even that was only to sustain his tribe’s livelihood. As such he find the subject boring. an opinion which can sometimes earn him the scorn of others. He also lacks interest in the struggle for equality between faunus and humans, citing it as being too cumbersome a dilemma and thinking the problem would be easily solved were nomadic like the Chromaggia tribe. He has admittedly however taken part in a few protests however, thinking of them a kind of festival.
<p>
Having a fierce look of bloodlust in his eyes, he mostly keeps his face obscured by having his weapon double as a hat. This is to avoid frightening or intimidating people too much with his gaze, a problem which has landed him in trouble more than a handful of times. It’s a fact he sometimes laments, but considers it preferable to making every passerby thinking he intended to do them harm, especially he couldn’t call such a claim a complete falsehood. He completely avoids sparring with anybody due to his inability to hold back and avoid being swept into the heat of battle. This may sometimes come to the frustration of teachers and his peers, but he has special permission to be excluded from such practices. The only person he’s ever sparred with was the mentor he travelled with 3 years prior to joining Beacon Academy, but with both parties going all out, one would hardly consider it a sparring match. He describes himself as being in a constant state of death. While not being in any pain at all, his mind seems to be in a constant state of fight or flight, which gives him heightened awareness, but has to maintain constant mental focus in order maintain composure otherwise he’d be unable to function properly in a normal environment nor on the battlefield. This gives the illusion of being constantly composed, when the truth is the complete opposite, a fact made clear to many upon viewing his face and even clearer if he’s separated from Sekhmet for too long.
<p>
<br>
<div id="criteriah">HISTORY.</div>
Robin comes from a nomadic tribe of bird faunus called the Chromaggia. Despite the harsh environment and constant threat of grimm, the Chromaggia have been able to not only survive, but prosper due not only to their keen vision but also to their hereditary semblance of sound. Using this, they have been able to consistently avoid confrontation with the Grimm, the elder previously being the only one to have encountered any in his lifetime. Not every tribe member had awakened to their semblance and those that did, though sharing the trait of manipulating sound, often differed in functionality. Robin’s semblance was considered the most lackluster of the Chromaggia, being able only to manipulate frequencies and tones. No one seemed to mind this fact however. In fact he was widely sought after during their regular festivals, popular for a piece he'd perform called "Song of the Chromaggia"
<p>
~✸~

<p>
Robin’s story began at the age of 14, when his tribe wound up being caught in a trap by Grimm, lured to a land to which they should have been familiar but was surprisingly terraformed by the Grimm since their last visit into a desert region. They were trapped. A King Taijitu in front, a Death Stalker behind and a horde of Grimm on either side. They were far, but were slowly closing in. The elder, unperturbed by the situation, had conjured a plan to escape but the villagers were all afraid, having never entered real combat before. Robin however was the first to step forward and volunteer, determined to protect the peace of his tribe. His mother tried to scold him, but the elder quickly accepted him, recognizing his valor. Not wanting to let a young boy undertake the task alone, the rest were slowly motivated to also join the plan to protect their livelihood.

Despite being unacquainted with the ways of battle, they successfully ambushed the Death Stalker and begun their fight for survival. They operated with the prowess and organisation of a fully trained team of huntsmen, their movements seeming more like a dance routine than a sequence of attacks. After a long battle they defeated the Death Stalker without a single casualty and had opened a path for which they could escape. Unfortunately, the King Taijitu had somehow arrived sooner than expected and instead of targeting them, took the opportunity while they were distracted to separate them from their dust supply, much of the main force being severely injured from the assault. Robin being the only one to notice this, was able to save a single crate of dust beforehand, but in doing so had separated himself from the tribe.

<p>
With the horde of Grimm slowly closing in around them, saving Robin would have meant losing their only opportunity for escape. The tribe hesitated, unsure of which course of action to take, but Robin shouted for them to leave, smiling widely to their surprise, stating his pride in dying if it meant being able to protect his family. With heavy hearts and eyes full of tears they all acknowledged his bravery and shouted their final goodbyes before turning to run. His mother and the elder however delayed this departure, both refusing to leave him behind. Finding himself desperate, he threw the crate of dust to the ground, detonating both the contents as well as the dust surrounding him and the large Grimm. The resulting explosion created a fissure through which both him and the Grimm fell.
<p>
His aura had protected him from the explosion but not from the fall. Severely injured he had closed his eyes and resigned himself to death, knowing that he had successfully saved his tribe and decided to spend his final moments whistling the song of the Chromaggia. The King Taijitu had survived also. Seemingly infuriated, it would not be satisfied with the fact that he was already dying and went to deliver the final blow. But in the moment before Robin’s death something within him changed. Deeper than the blood escaping from his wounds, than the fire burning in his lungs, he felt a different kind of fire welling up inside of him: the desire to live. His eyes shot open as he screamed out in fear and rage, then in the next moment everything had gone white. He’d later realize that the fissure he fell into dropped him into an ancient temple and his whistling had somehow activated the sun disk embedded at its head which both protected him from the blow and saved his life. At that present time however, all he knew was that he had to survive. In savage rage he grabbed the object and attacked the Grimm with such precision one would think he’d been wielding the weapon for years. He easily dispatched the King Taijitu, but the fear and rage didn’t end there.

<p>
His mind set only on returning to his tribe, he climbed out of the fissure. What awaited him however was not the bated expressions of his tribesmen, happy to see him alive. Instead they were gasping, screaming, running as if they were looking at a monster; and from their perspective that’s exactly what he was. Seeing his fierce, snarling expression along with a body so wrangled it shouldn’t have been able to move, they believed he was a vengeful spirit, come to punish them for their decision to leave him behind. They ran, trying to escape the hateful creature; he chased, believing that if he could just reach his family and friends the pain and anxiety would finally subside. Some even attacked him trying to defend themselves, but despite his confusion he would easily overpower any who tried.
<p>
The fear and despair surrounding them drew in a small group of Grimm, but they were all too distracted by him to take notice until it was too late. One of the children were close and were about to be caught in a Beowolf’s maw but Robin quickly dashed passed everyone, slicing the Beowolf and the rest of the Grimm in two, roaring that no would else would die that day. The tribe stood dumbfounded at what had just happened when his mother finally arrived, screaming his name and pulling him into her embrace. The fear and the rage didn’t subside as he had hoped, but the tears streaming down his face confirmed that he could still feel relief and sadness. He gripped her tightly, burying his face into her bosom and crying for what felt like an eternity.

The elder ensured that Robin was nursed back to full health, but his eyes never lost their ferocity and he complained that the fear and anger he felt before he almost died still persisted deep within him. This was not something that needed to be conveyed however as it could be seen and felt through his aura. Miraculously changing hue, it was no longer yellow but now a scarlet red, exuding a feeling of anger and death that kept anyone in the tribe from approaching him. Though the elder taught him to eventually control himself to the point where he could speak and act normally as well as mitigate the intensity of his aura, the rest of his tribe still often recoiled upon meeting his gaze; as though they were looking at death itself. Ashamed of the unease he was causing everyone he began to shut himself in his room, wearing the artifact over his head and obscuring his face whenever he had to interact with anyone.
<p>
All the elder could tell about Robin's condition was that it mysteriously grew worse whenever he was separated from the strange artifact he’d brought back with him. For this reason he sought help from outside. An archaeologist and huntsman with strong ties throughout Vale, he agreed to try and both discover the origins of the strange artifact and find a cure for robin. However without being able to separate from the artifact this meant Robin had to leave his tribe once more; and for no small time either. He was initially reluctant, but was determined to figure out what was wrong with him and reverse it. He also figured the rest of the tribe would sleep easier knowing they weren’t harboring a monster. So he agreed. The night before his departure however, the tribe threw a surprise party for him: the biggest party they’d had in years for his departure. Without knowing if he’d come out or not, they shouted their well wishes to his room, apologizing for their behavior towards him; telling him he’d always have a place with them; and to eventually come back home, cure or no cure, because they couldn’t stand the thought of losing him twice. They may not have been able to meet his gaze but it didn’t mean they loved him any less. Finally acknowledging this fact, he threw the artifact back from his head and went outside to join in the festivities, dancing for what would also feel like an eternity before leaving the next day.

<div id="criteriah">TRIVIA.</div>
— Robin’s name alludes to a small bird, signature for its orange-red breast, face, throat and cheeks. <br>
— Robin’s surname is a combination of the words “Ra” and “Sol”, the latter of which is the latin word for “Sun” and the former of which is name of the egyptian sun god to which his character alludes. <br>
— His weapon Sekhmet refers to the Egyptian goddess of the same name, cited as being the daughter of as well as the eye of Ra. <br>
— Robin’s story, personality and abilities all follow the similar motif of life and death. The two states of his Sekhmet - Mandjet and Mesektet - refer to the two solar boats upon which Ra travelled, the first of which took him to the sky and the latter taking him to the underworld. This a reference to the effect that both states have on him.<br>
— Robin has a deep love for his tribe and maintains constant contact with them, writing to them often about his experiences. He also receives a constant supply of dust from them. <br>
— Though it's cited as using his semblance through whistling, the sound produced is more accurately that of a bamboo flute. <br>
— The name of his tribe comes from the song “Chromaggia” featured in the musical “Repo! The Genetic Opera”, the song being a morbid tale about a bird with an arrow stuck to its wing. This is not however the same tune you hear when he performs "Song of the Chromaggia". <br>
— His greatest discovery since leaving his tribe so far has been ice cream. He can be found eating it often. <br>
— He sometimes uses his semblance to play tricks on others around the school. <br>
— Robin did not study at a primary combat school, and was accepted into Beacon due to recommendation by his mentor.

Sound is an ability common among many of my OCs so, already having my semblance in mind. I started first with the weapon I wanted to use, being the ring blade, then thinking about how it could feasibly transform into other weapons. The Khopesh form originally being that of a sickle, I found the Khopesh more accurately fit the look I had pictured for it. After doing some research into the Khopesh I decided to make the weapon the centerpiece of the OC instead of the semblance, this meant cutting back what I originally had in mind for Robin's semblance into something more minimalist. His style being so similar to Judal's is more of a coincidence than anything else, wanting to create a look from various cultures, but having watched Magi before I can't rule out the possibility of being at least passively influenced by his design. I was already in the middle of writing an origin chapter when I was told about this place, so I found cutting back on the story telling quite hard. For instance, I completely erased his dad from existence! xD <p>
Oh, and if the use of gravity dust doesn't quite fit with the rules(it wasn't among the list) it'd be no problem to adjust it. ^^
