about us
Legends. Stories, scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the many exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants - byproducts - of a forgotten past.

Join the ranks of Remnant’s prestigious Academies as you fight to protect the Four Kingdoms from the clutches of the evil Creatures of Grimm. Alternatively, you may work towards bringing the world to its knees by fighting against the last sparks of humanity. Red Like Roses is based on the hit web-series RWBY by Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth Productions.

What will happen this year?

feb 16 we are excited to announce the unveiling of the new skin, CASPIAN! :D

So, as anyone who has seen me around the cbox knows, I get too many character ideas. Currently I have made 10 characters for this site alone, though only 6 of them have been accepted and rped with. I have decided that, while I would enjoy using some of them, I should probably just put them up for people more interested and less flooded with characters. This thread will be updated as I...create more characters, which is an inevitability. If you see a character you like, you can do many things. You can contact me on skype (shadowbright552), you can shoot me a pm, bug me on the cbox, or simply just reply to this post. Certain characters are just cool ideas, some of them are fully made and have to have certain things, they will be detailed on a character by character basis. Also, to insure no issues arise, if someone claims a character this way I give full permission to use the apps I have already written up.

The Pendragon Sisters: The Pendragons are a fantastic idea that I came up with, and I absolutely adore Xavier. Of course, I made his two sisters Pearl and Lucy, and planned to eventually use them as full characters of my own. With the arising issues I'm having however, I don't see this happening in the foreseeable future. These two have set personalities and histories, you can tweak them slightly or rewrite them, but the core must remain the same. The gender's of these characters are also set, as Xavier's app specifically mentions his "sisters", which would not make sense if one of them suddenly turned male. Pearl's semblance must remain the same, as the Wing's of Icarus are a big part of the character, but everything else about the characters can be changed. Or not, if you just like them as written. Also to note, the first person to claim one of the Pendragon sisters will likely get a thread with Xavier that acts as a sequel to The Dragon Chases the Snake. After all, that was a big moment in the Pendragon family, originally I had the interaction going on in my head, but it would be fun to rp it out.

Kaiyo "Spark" Berril: A purely insane character, Spark quite literally roams the streets of Atlas slaughtering people to relieve them of the pain of life. She does not have an app on site, though her app is fully made in a google document. If you would like the link to that, contact me via the means above. For Spark, not much has to remain the same, basically just the sheer insanity and her semblance. Her semblance, as I figure I should mention it, is electricity manipulation, ranging from simply controlling currents to shooting lightning bolts to literally becoming a bolt of electricity arcing through nearby materials. Once again, feel free to rewrite any part of their app to fit your style.

Amethyst Glow: This character grew from the idea of her weapon, a cybernetic dire wolf that she controls and keeps as a pet. Once again Amethyst doesn't have an app on site but has a full app in a google document, acquire access the same way as with Spark. For Amethyst, the only thing you need to keep is the weapon, though his name doesn't have to remain the same. While you don't have to keep it, her semblance is extremely complimentary to her weapon. In fact, in the app I utilize the semblance in the weapon description, so you would have to change the weapon's writing if you change the semblance. Her semblance is the ability to infuse her aura into technology. There are a bunch of caveats, but I'll spare the details so as not to extend this post too much. Amethyst was also meant to be a teacher at Beacon, but that can be pretty easily changed.

For anybody who doesn't recognize the Shadow Thief account and its owner, this is ShadowBrght speaking. Currently my life is hitting a huge burst, and along with that medical issues abound are popping up. I've been posting as much as I can, and I will continue to do so, but truth be told I don't know how much longer I can keep it up. I am truly sorry, and do not intend to leave the site by any means, merely taking a medical absence. For anyone currently threading with me, as I said I'll post when I can, but that frequency will be greatly reduced. This place has one of the most fantastic communities I've seen, and I am loving my time here. I may pop up in the cbox from time to time to chit chat, say hi and see how everyone's doing. In fact, the amount of time I spend on the cbox will probably stay the same. It is merely my posting rate which will be reduced by these issues, and I once again deeply apologize to everyone.

<div id="criteriah">AURA & SEMBLANCE.</div>

Shadow’s aura is not only a pitch black, it seems to actively repel light. As for feeling, it’s hard to describe. People can always almost feel what her aura is, but not quite. Her aura’s feeling is always out of reach, just barely beyond understanding. Many people are quite disoriented simply by the oddity of the feeling.<p></p>

Her semblance is twofold. The primary part of it is <i>Foreshadow</i>, her aura warning her of impending danger. Whenever her aura is active and she encounters a danger she can’t see, <i>Foreshadow</i> will activate. Technically, all it does is inform her of the danger, however she’s trained herself to be able to prevent most every danger <i>Foreshadow</i> detects. The more <i>Foreshadow</i> activates, the more paranoid Shadow gets. The more paranoid she gets, the more <i>Foreshadow</i> activates. Unfortunately, Shadow can’t turn off <i>Foreshadow</i> without turning off her whole aura, which she can do with the second part of her semblance.<p></p>

<i>Second Skin</i> is a very interesting part of her semblance. Shadow can only use it as long as her Aura has not been used to attack another creature with a soul. As most weaponry and dust use the wielder’s aura, this means she can’t actually attack non-Grimm. <i>Second Skin</i> allows Shadow to form her aura into an illusion and literally wear it over her skin. This allows her to shroud herself in a perfect disguise, and more than that turn off her aura. While <i>Second Skin</i> is active, Shadow’s aura acts entirely as if it had never been awakened. This means that her aura can’t be used for anything, and <i>Foreshadow</i> can’t activate. Nowadays, Shadow uses this in her day to day life to assume the persona of Raven Blood.

<div id="criteriah">WEAPON.</div>

As Shadow can’t actually attack others, her “weapons” aren’t exactly weapons. However, they are what she uses to get through in her most difficult pinches, as well as what she defends herself with. Most primarily, Shadow has the Amorphous Nanite-Controlled Handwraps, or <b>ANCH</b>.<b> ANCH</b> are a pair of light gloves that Shadow always wears, black in color and elegant in style. With merely a thought, Shadow can cause the gloves to morph, grow, solidify, and move in any way she desires. Each glove can produce enough material to create a fully formed lance about a foot away from her hands, about 2-3 pounds of material. The material is extremely tough and can even block bullets, but they are quite difficult to control. It took Shadow not only building them, but spending years training with them to fully command the gloves, and they still sometimes don’t work as intended. <b>ANCH</b> can be used in a large variety of ways, from stretching into a lock and forming the key inside it, to forming shields to deflect bullets, to long tendrils to manipulate objects from a distance.<p></p>

<b>ANCH’s</b> biggest weakness is it is a huge aura draw. When worn by anyone with an unawakened aura, including Raven Blood, they are nothing more than ornate gloves. Whenever they are in use, they are pulling from the wielder’s aura in a proportional amount to what is being created. The nanites that actually control the gloves are powered by aura, and utilize its power to self-replicate and combine to give the gloves their unique properties. This means that even after she gets rid of whatever she made, <b>ANCH</b> still consumed some of her aura.<p></p>

Shadow also has a Bag of Tricks. This small bag contains various knick-knacks of Shadow’s creation. This bag contains her mark, a small black cat statuette with a tag saying “The Shadow Thief” around its neck. More importantly, it contains her Pellets. These Pellets are small, easily broken orbs containing dust combinations of her own creation. Her most used Pellet is her Smoke Pellet. This Pellet’s dust combination is very similar to steam dust, except it has a much larger amount of water dust and has wind dust worked in. This causes the steam to be cool to the touch and disperse throughout the room very quickly. She also uses Flash Pellets, utilizing earth and fire dust in a one to one ratio. This causes small particles of dust, dirt, grass, and other bits of earth to form and immediately ignite. This causes a decent amount of heat and a bright flash of light as the fire roars and dies in an instant. Every now and then, she uses her Stick Pellets. These combine black dust with earth dust, forming a light sheet of earth with its own gravity along a surface. Most often she uses these to run up walls or stick to ceilings and hide.<p></p>

Whenever Shadow is forced into a fight, she never fights back. One of the strangest thing about her “fighting style” is that it involves no fighting. She will exclusively dodge your attacks; distract you; block your attacks; or run away. Her ultimate goal in a fight is to escape, every time. She does this in a number of ways, from climbing buildings with either Stick Pellets or ANCH formed into a hook of some sort to using a Flash or Smoke Pellet and simply running. Should she ever truly fight-most likely against a creature of Grimm-her fighting style would be one of incredible mobility and versatility, morphing ANCH to suit her needs and using Pellets as required.

BONUS: Shadow generally carries around a coil of rope, and has hidden pockets all over her clothing to hide things in.

<div id="tab">PERSONAL PROFILE</div>

<div id="smalltext">

<div id="criteriah">APPEARANCE.</div>

Shadow has two different appearances: Shadow Thief and Raven Blood. Her natural form is Shadow Thief, a young faunus taking after a snake. Her eyes are gold and slitted, hair short and blonde with sharp features. She’s quite short at 4’11 and is very thin and frail looking. She wears loose, but not dragging, black clothing. <p></p>

Raven Blood on the other hand, is a human. She appears around 25, has spiked back, short black hair, and dark red eyes. She’s not much taller than Shadow, 5’0, and only slightly less thin and frail. Raven wears primarily black and layered outfits, with streaks of red worked into the seams. Raven’s demeanor is kind and confident, while Shadow’s is cocky and brash.

<p><div id="criteriah">PERSONALITY.</div>

Shadow’s personality is complex, as she is technically two people. Because of that, Shadow Thief and Raven Blood have differing personalities, however there are things that are the same across them both. For instance, no matter who Shadow is, she will always care for the well being of others. Despite being a master thief, she never steals enough to put somebody out of a house, or out a job, or to push them into poverty. Both Shadow and Raven are confident, though they show it in different ways. The both of them also quite like cats.<p></p>

Shadow Thief is a very cocky faunus, yet she has the skills to back it up. She never hides her face, sometimes going so far as to directly show it to people. Every single item she steals is replaced with her mark; a small black cat statuette with a tag around its neck reading “The Shadow Thief”. She always goes for incredibly difficult targets, simply because she wants to prove she can and she revels in people’s inability to stop her. As such, she is also extremely impulsive, and almost never fully makes a plan.<p></p>

Shadow is surprisingly loyal and honorable, believing heavily in the saying “honor amongst thieves.” Anybody that makes friends with Shadow-not Raven-can expect a friend who will be there for them whenever she can. If Shadow makes a promise you can be sure she’ll keep it, and she won’t steal from another thief. She never harms anybody on her heists, partially because she can’t but mostly because she wouldn’t. That being said, a criminal who uses brute force to get what they want disgusts Shadow. She sees them as too unskilled to get things done in the proper way, having to resort to common thuggery to get the job done. In her eyes, the two worst crimes you can commit are killing and taking hostages, and she will do anything in her power to help save hostages.<p></p>

Shadow’s biggest weakness is her big mouth. She has a very quick and sharp wit, popping off with quips whenever she can. That being said, she tends to get herself into trouble by talking too much. She tends to taunt whoever she’s stealing from, causing increased security, alarms, and all sorts of unfortunate happenings. She’s only truly made a situation insurmountable with her mouth once, but she’ll probably do it many more times in her life. She quite enjoys not only taunting people, but giving them a “fair” chance to stop her: even if they still don’t stand a chance.<p></p>

Raven Blood, her day to day persona, is a rather kind person. She’s the person who helps the old ladies across the street; the one who helps you up when you trip on the sidewalk; the one that stops to ask if you’re lost. She enjoys helping people and making them smile. Raven walks around with a smile on her face and a spring in her step, choosing to see the best in both people and the world.<p></p>

Raven’s kindness does not stop her from being confident. When she’s backed into a corner, or helping someone, she never hesitates. She moves with certainty, acts with conviction, and speaks in a calm and clear voice. She’s a rather good friend to have, she’ll help you through your problems; be a shoulder to cry on; a voice of reason when you’re being crazy; and be there to simply talk to. However, she’s not always there, as whenever the Shadow Thief is out Raven Blood is nowhere to be found.<p></p>

Raven is simply a persona, so bits and pieces of Shadow’s personality bleed through on occasion. She tries to keep it under control, but every now and again you can see bits of the Shadow Thief through Raven. Once Shadow is done with her, Raven will simply disappear, never to be seen again. Shadow also has to maintain constant control of herself to insure nobody finds her out as Raven, under any circumstances. Raven is also rather weak, having no access to aura, her semblance, or ANCH. All her strength is in her voice, but if she were to get in a fight she’d most likely lose, especially as she wouldn’t fight back.

<p><div id="criteriah">HISTORY.</div>

Shadow Thief was born the bastard faunus daughter to a rich human house. Named Ebony Shimmer, she was shunned by the house for three years before being kicked out completely. A maid who couldn’t bear to see a child left in the streets to die brought her to a friend. This friend happened to be a rather skilled thief and gladly took her in. This man, calling himself Swift, fed her, sheltered her, and cared for her. Ebony, now called Shadow, grew to know this man as her father and at age 8 began being taught by him.<p></p>

Swift trained Shadow in the art of the thief. Teaching how to move quietly, use shadows to her advantage, pick pockets and locks, and how to replace objects silently. Shadow learned quickly, proving herself a natural. At age 10, Swift believed her sufficiently trained to begin using her aura to assist her. As such, he unlocked it for her and discovered an interesting fact. Shadow had a rare condition, called a Pure Soul. This causes her aura to be stronger than most, and her semblance to gain more effects, however should she ever attack another soul hers would lose its purity. This means her aura would drop greatly in strength and she’d lose part of her semblance. Most people with a Pure Soul do not keep it long, and are almost never hunters. Swift explained this to Shadow, and helped her learn to control Foreshadow and Second Skin.<p></p>

For the next three years, Shadow began developing both her mark and the prototypes of ANCH. ANCH’s first iteration were literal handwraps of nanites, and were both hard to control and did not have much material. Then, ANCH was a highly dense material that could stretch and morph. That was very heavy and cumbersome, causing her to make ANCH as it is today. Her mark was much simpler to make. She had already adopted the name Shadow, so simply adding Thief to the end of it was not that hard. The cat embodies what Shadow loves, speed, agility, gracefulness, and confidence. The tag is simply Shadow being cocky and prideful. Swift saw how much Shadow had grown, and realized that for her to grow more he had to leave. One day, Swift simply vanished, leaving Shadow a note not to search for him and to become a better thief.<p></p>

Now, six years later, Shadow has become one of the best thieves in the world. Always gloating over what she steals yet never caught, hiding in plain sight as a different person, and never stealing everything a person has. The world is stirring, everything becoming more dangerous. Shadow doesn’t give much thought to that, all she wants is for her name to spread further, her legacy to live on long after she falls.

<div id="criteriah">FACE CLAIM.</div> Soul Eater: Medusa Gorgon as Shadow Thief.<p>

<div id="criteriah">INSPIRATION.</div> Ah the Shadow Thief. She’s a character I’ve had in my head for years. I’ve built her in so many different ways, worked her into every world I’ve created and every rp I’ve joined. Originally, she was primarily inspired by Catwoman. As you can see, she’s grown quite a bit since then.<p>

<div id="criteriah">ANYTHING ELSE.</div> So, for rp purpose this character is both Shadow Thief and Raven Blood. I will use the same account for both, but in the post I will refer to her by who she is at that time. So if she’s Shadow, I’ll refer to her as Shadow, if she’s Raven I’ll refer to her as Raven.
