about us
Legends. Stories, scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the many exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants - byproducts - of a forgotten past.

Join the ranks of Remnant’s prestigious Academies as you fight to protect the Four Kingdoms from the clutches of the evil Creatures of Grimm. Alternatively, you may work towards bringing the world to its knees by fighting against the last sparks of humanity. Red Like Roses is based on the hit web-series RWBY by Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth Productions.

Atlas was a very militaristic nation, one who's academy followed along in the same style. Lights out meant lights out, but when you were restless late at night, what were you to do? Only a walk could help with that. Eleanore wasn't often one to break the rules unless she had a good reason. Tonight, she considered it a good reason.

It had been around a week since she had been out of the hospital and back in school. If she was treated differently before, it was nothing compared to now. Strange looks were even stranger, the rumours flying just as quickly. The extra attention was unwanted and sometimes she felt like the only time she could actually think clearly was at night when she was away from everybody else. Long legs carried her silently through Titan Circle, keeping to the shadowy areas. The giant was dressed casually, a hoodie thrown over a tank top, plaid Pajama bottoms and socks.

It was easy enough to avoid being detected if you didn't walk out in the open. Even a big oaf like Eleanore could remain hidden if the paths were known. Her favourite spot was off to the far side of the circle, a somewhat secluded area with a wall to lean against and the perfect area for someone who didn't want to be seen. From here she could see the night sky and the lights within it, something that always calmed her; stargazing was one of her mother's favourite past times, the amount of times she had taken her on those trips was immeasurable.

The tall girl simply stood, leaned against the wall and staring up at the stars. She could remember the names of some of them, but others slipped her memory. There were so many of them, Mama wouldn't be too upset if she forgot a few of them. She hoped, anyway.

Standing at a crossroads in an oversized white shirt that hung to the knees with the moonlight making their skin and hair glow softly, Zi looked ephemeral. They gazed forlornly up at the stars, letting out a gentle sigh and closing their eyes. Truly they made a romantic image.

After a few minutes of silent contemplation, the apparition abruptly stuck out their tongue and blew a loud raspberry into the night before dropping heavily onto their butt. A raspy groan soon ground out of their throat. A moment of peace, then another boneless fall until they were entirely prone.

Just...get it out, thought Zi in agitation. I know it's hard but just...let it out here for now.

Settling into school so far had been a nightmare. Having never been separated from their parents for more than a few days in their life, they had never really realized just how much taking care of they required. Showering, sleeping, and eating were chores oft forgotten. Performing well in class (a difficult objective in it’s own right) was impossible on the scarce naps and snacks that Zi had been allowing themself. Their teachers had been livid at their neglect towards proper hygeine. Tidiness, the militant educators always chided or screamed, shows good moral character.

Well, I sure must have a lack of moral character, throwing a tantrum outside in the middle of the night like this. Bare feet stomped against the ground for a moment in distress, before settling again as Zi regained control of their temper.

A strange sound rent the calm night air and Ellie quickly looked around. It had almost sounded like... someone was sticking their tongue out. Was she imagining things? Had someone found her out? It would be bad if someone had caught her red handed out of bed during the night, but the sound didn't appear to have come from any Titan staff prowling around in search of trouble makers.

Turning, Eleanore began searching for what had made the sound. Had it even been human? The tall girl had thought it sounded human, but what did she know? Keen orange eyes spotted a figure in the moderate distance; whoever it was, they were laying on the ground. A frown creased the giant's face, her brow crinkling slightly. If they laid on the floor like that, they would catch a cold...

Careful but quiet long strides carried her towards the prone figure. As she neared, their features didn't really clear up any. In fact, they might have become more confusing. There were almost no physical characteristics to discern this person as a male or a female. That didn't bother Eleanore, however; as someone who got mistaken as the opposite gender because of her height, she knew it could be tough. The teenager cleared her throat awkwardly, a respectful distance from the prone student.

"You might catch a cold if you lay on the ground..." She said quietly, her low toned voice gently carrying in the slight breeze. "Are you alright?"

The basic instinct carried by most living species that determines the actions taken during a moment of fear is often known as fight or flight. This is really quite misleading as there is in fact a third reaction that all manner of beings are known to have: freeze. And freeze is exactly what Zi did upon realizing they had been caught not only out of their room past curfew, but behaving violently and childishly. Surely they would be punished excessively. Breaking rules was one thing, but their counsellor would be especially disappointed to know that they hadn't been practising meditation or breathing in times of frustration. Panic flooded Zi’s system, and what little capability for rational thought they had flew out the window.

Outwardly, the pale youth had stilled to the point where their breathing almost became undetectable. Slowly tension worked it’s way through the muscles of Zi’s body, starting as a subtle tightening and eventually causing minor tremors throughout. Eyes glazed over and stayed, unseeing, staring straight up at the sky with a blank expression.

After several minutes bruised crimson eyes snapped to the tall form standing a few feet away. The voice had seemed kind, and surely if the person intended to get Zi in trouble they would have done so already. The sight of the tall, gangly, uncomfortable teen loosened some of the painful tension in Zi’s extremities. Considering their options, they opened their mouth a few times only to close it when nothing good came to mind.

The ice was broken when Zi was overcome by an enormous sneeze. Dramatic to a fault, stick-like arms and legs were flailed out by the force, flopping akimbo in all directions. Their blank face instantly broke into a sheepish grin, followed by a sharp crackle of laughter.

“I think,” chuckled Zi, “that you just might be right about that cold thing.”

Worry flooded her when the prone student didn't move, even moreso when they DID move but appeared to almost... convulse? Startled, Eleanore took a concerned step forward, ready to kneel and check the person's vitals when the sneeze exploded from them. Surprised, Eleanore blinked, and a cackle filled the dim courtyard. Strange... very strange, but relief flooded the giant when she realized that this person was in fact alive. Thank goodness...

Tilting her head to the side, she tried to get a better look at this person. Aside from the abysmal lightning, it was unusually difficult to determine a gender. Slight like a female but lacking any discernible female anatomy, it looked as if this person wasn't too keen on appearing as either gender of the other... and that was fine by Ellie. A kind smile spread awkwardly across her features, lopsided and unrefined but not lacking in sincerity. One long arm extended downwards, a hand held out for the smaller person.

"Need a hand up?"

How strange was it for a giant of a girl to wander over and offer a hand up when neither of them were really supposed to be out of bed? Very, she reckoned, but Eleanore had never really been the conventional sort. Tall, awkward, and more than a little sheepish, her charm was clearly in her gentle demeanor and not her stellar outward appearance.
